By a margin of one point, Athletic defeated Selwyn at Wakefield Park. Athletic quickly opened their scoring account with a penalty goal by Ryan. Patchy play followed for a while, and then from a serum near the line Cudby (Selwyn"!-got possession of tlic ball and scored in. the corner. The kick at goal failed. The scores were unaltered at half-time. In the second spell, Burndon obtained a try for Athletic, but the kick at goal did not further improve the position. Eastbourne and Training College, two senior B grade teams, which'play bright, open football, gave early arrivals at Athletic .Park on Saturday an enjoyable prelude to the principal event. On this occasion Eastbourne met their match, and in fast bouts of play during the first spell the championship leaders often found the opposition _ beating them at their own game. Training College.were in form, and in' open play they moved in a mariner which suggested that Eastbourne's run of successes was likely to be terminated.
