SHOPS DESTROYED

A fire occurred in the, centre of the town at 6 o clock to-ni^jt by which a two-storied business buildlug was destroyed. .The brigade did'well to save the adjoining biulduiß- o£ Mr. H. Eeckin, haii> dresser and billiard saloon proprietor llie outbreak apparently originated in tne portion occupied by Mr. PT D Henderson, florist, and spread to 'the' other part, occupied by Mr. C. A. Bliss, baker and confectioner, and the top story occupied as.a dwelling by Mr" and Mrs. C.hatJaway an.d child. The building was about 20 years- old, and was owned by Mrs E. A. Bicknell, of Hamilton. The bmlduiß was insured in the South British Ofhee, but the amount-is not available The contents of Mr. Reckin's shop and saloon were damaged by water.
