DUNEDIN MEETING CONCLUDED

COASTGUARD WINS AGAIN"

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") rm DUNEDIN, 4lh Juno. J.IIO Duncdin Winter Mcetiug conoluded in hne weather, and there was a good nttendimce. The going was again sticky and holding after a heavy frost. The tottilisator handled £27,885 XOa for the day, compared with £30,315 for the third day last year, making a total for the meeting of £82,372 10s, compared with .£83,851. last year. TAIERI HANDICAP. ' Equerry went out a rather better fnvouvlto than High Gear for the Taieri Handicap. Flaming Ray and Divinial made the running from Dubious, Roman Archer, and Pitou as they entered the back stretch. iUaming Kay and Divinial were still in charge as they approached the home turn, where Piton joined the leaders, and Strathnaver and Chivalry were leading the others in close order. Flaming Ray collapsed alter reaching the straight, and left I'iton and Divinial in charge. Equerry came through on the rails at the distance, and staying on well won by two lengths from Paris, who got up and beat Piton by half a length. Chivalry, Fairy Tidings, and learning Ray finished close to the placed lot. After the race. a protest was lodged against the •winner on the ground of interference with Paris when racing near the half-mile post. After consideration the stewards suspended B. Brodie, the rider

of Equerry, for.three months, but did not disturb the judge's placingg. KING GEORGE HANDICAP. Circulation and Wingatui were well supported for the King Georgo Handicap, and lljo Harp was also well backed. Fairy Herald raced away to a six-length lead from Soltoe, Circulation, Set Sail, aud The « 1 iP-- 11 the ep<l o£ three furlon<rs the held following the leader were racing in close order. Fairy Herald was still sis lengths clear at the home turn from Circulatioiv bet Sail,. aud . Soltoe. Set Sail t topped before straightening for home, and Circulation shortly afterwards followed suit.; Soltoe caught Fairy Herald inside the distance,-but Wingatui came with a good run and won by a length from Soltoe, who beat Fairy. Herald by another length Then came Courtley Rose, The Harp, and Vaward. GREENFIELD HURDLES. Coastguard repeated his success in the Otagol Hurdles when he won the Greenfield Hurdles. He was always one of the leading bunch, with Atapo, Captain Sarto, and-Hard Prince. Once heads were in line I for home Coastguard came on, and leadI ing over the final hurdle •won by three

lengtlis from Atapo, who beat Kaikaliu by a neck. Kaikahu was a long, way back iialt a mile from home, aud if better placed at tliat stage would have seriously troubled the winner. Captain Sarto failed to stay and finished fourth. EMPIRE HANDICAP. All on the card went out for the Emi piro handicap, and Eaton Bella and Arrowmir carried much more support than JJmeoinpoop, who ranked third in demand. JNincompoop and Ecuador again played up at the Post and were placed behind the ■cst of the field. Dancing Bays was first to show at the start, but soon gave way to Cassolette and Arrowmir, who led Clon,arC, Lava,-.and Dancing Days to the home mii, where Baton Bella joined the leaders. Jwton Bells^was m charge coming to the distance, but ]00 yards from home Nincomjjoop was putting in a R reat rim on tlie outyule o£ the field and he got up in time to pip the mure by half a head on the post ' rivol was a length away third, followed by fcolrose, Arrowmif, and Valdamo Nincompoop put up a good performance in winning after starting behind the field and covering a lot of ground on the outside of tlio track. Possibly the extra ground assisted success, as lio raced on firmer going than that nearer the rails. DUNEDIN STEEPLES. Cartoon went out favourite for the Buncdm btccplcs, but settled his chances by nearly coming down at each fence of the stand double. Ostennan lost his rider at the. third fence, and Tigerland landed into tho water jump when in charge of the hold. After passing the stand Vice Grand, Cartoon, and Frisco Mail were racing half a furlong m front of Kipling and Birkenella, whilst Pamplona was labouring along m Hie war. Night Raid was first to tire, and Vice Grand nnd Frisco Mail Jed over tho water and final fence. In tho -rim liome Vice Grand beat Frisco Mail who broke down and pulled up very lame Kip•S C om? on oiKht lengths 'away third, with Cartoon next. DOMAIN HANDICAP. I Most of the money in the Domain Handicap came for lloyal Saxon and Eriu go Bragh, but whilst the latter won from end to end tho former was in the ruck until the race was practically over. Irish, Sthottische, aud Royal Head pari^cipatcd in a close finish, which saw Erin go Bragh last long enough to beat Schottische by a head, with Koyal Head some distance away, and Irish right up with them. King Balboa was

veil up i n the car]y stagcg) bu( . faded out _ JlojJake was running second between the Uuec and four-furlong posts, but then suddenly went back last. None of the others ever threatened danger. TAHUNA STEEPLES. Isla Bank carried considerably more money than anything in the Talmna Weepies, in which the favourite, Radiac, -unijvand Maungamoe raced together unui tiie nrst named bumped his rider off at the small sod wall near the mile post. J-vadiac and Andy then went on disputing leadership in front of Maungamoe. Thl iirsfc named landed over the last fence half a dozen lengths in front of Maungamoe, who, however, drew up in the run home and .beat Andy by three lengths. Radiac was a length away third. Auburn could not keep pace with the leaders. FAREWELL HANDICAP. Backers took the risk of sending CelernVr OUt at a short Price for the Farewell Handicap, but the' courage 1 met with reward. Emerson got her into a good mood at the barrier, and although she dwelt at the start the lost ground was soon recovered. Celerity 11. was steadied after j reaching a handy position, and inside the distance she shot through to win galloping over theopposition. Fairy Herald seemed ! a bit unlucky to be deprived of second place, and Lucy Locket, Brightling, Mountain Lion, Father. O'Flynn, and Courtley Kose, who were all well up in the early stages, faded out when it came to the final business. Results :— Taieri Handicap, of 275 sots ; one mile and a quarter.—!
