MATCHES AT PBTONE

Two matches were played at League Park, Petone, on Saturday, before a fair attendance. Both games were keenly contested, and some good form was shown. HUTT v. NEWTOWN. Newtowu attacked strongly from tiie kick-off, but it was not long before Hutt obtained 3 points, R. Bowan scoring. Following a good passing bout, L. Bowan crossed the line. R. Bowan converted. Hutt 8, Newtown 0. Play see-sawed for the remainder of the spell, and knoek-ons were very frequent. In the secoSd half Desmond picked up the ball, and with a brilliant run and short kick over the Hutt full-back, scored a great try. Desmond converted. Hutt B,.Newtown 5. Hutt returned to the attack. Newtown were penalised, and R. Bowan kicked a fine goal. Hutt 10, Newtown 5. Before the end Hutt set up a fine passing rush, from which Harding scored, for R. Bowan to goal. Time was called with the score readme: Hutt 15, Newtown 5. Mr. Boyd was the referee. NORTH DEFEAT PETONE. North defeated Petone by 10 points to 2. Keeping Petone in their twenty-five and by not allowing the game to open up, it was not long before Scorringe scored tor North. The kick failed. North 3, Petone 0. Again returning to the attack North gained a try owing to good dribbling by. Eutwhistle and Chill. The try was converted. North 8, Petone 0. Smith, tor North, was playing well, his following up and attacking being dangerous to Petone and compelling mcc than one force-down. Chill scored again for North, JJalkie missing the lack. North 11, Petone 0. After more attacks, Scorringegot over for • North. Smith converted North 16, Petone 0. Petone now improv,cd, but were too late, their only points being gained by means of a penally goal, the hnal score being: North 10, Petone 2.
