WELLINGTON CLUB. On Saturday the Wellington Harriers ■Club hgld the sixteenth annual threemile sealed handicap race for the hand-' some silver cup presented by Mr. C. W. Palmer in 1907. Four previous wiunel-e of the cup -who started jn the race -were W. Watson (1921), J. Swan (1923), X Green (1925), ,W. P. Harlen (1926). The race was the fastest yet run for the cup, J.'Shephard breaking the record for the distance (time, lSmin 51sec); the previous best time being 17min lsec, made by C. Kowberry in 1911. Twenty-two runners faced the starter, Mr. C. W. Palmer, and all completed the full course isoon after the start R. Spenee took the lead, which he maintained for the first jnile. Then S. Morris, closely followed by J. Shephard and A. AY. Burns, passed him, the rest of the field running together 100 yards behind. At the two miles Bums went to the front, followed by Shephard and Morris, with L. Watson 50 yards away, and Spenee 20 yards behind Watson. W. Whelau and P. Harlen were leading the rest of the field. Burns and Shephard ran the rest of the distance together, and in an exciting finish bhephard beat Burns by l-ssee, with S Morris third,.X. Watson fourth, and R. Spence' fifth. On the handicaps being worked out it was found that R. Kewson, with a handicap of 2min 55sec, had won from N. White (2min 55sec) by 2sec, E Williams (3min 15sec) was third. Besides holding the cup for one year, Newson secured a trophy also presented by Mr. Palmer, The club's next weekly run will take place' from the Council Chambers Karon, on Saturday. BROOKLYN CLUB. The Brooklyn Harriers held their run from South Karori on Saturday. Commencing from Karori Park, the trail led up;into the hills on to. a broad track which wound among the ridges behind Wilton's Bush; From there the paper turned towards the west and circled on to the ridge running south. The runners returned by descending a deep gully, mounting the other side, crossing their trail and reaching the Karori road by a long zig-zag. The conditions were ideal for running, and the eight miles and a half circuit of the hills was thoroughly enjoyed The next run will be held from Wadestown, where the club will be entertained by Mr. Barclay. . OLYMPIC CLUB. saw the Olympic Harrier Clubs two-mile relay race run from Island Bay. Five teams of four men faced the starter, and.the course was from Cliff House, round the bay road to Happy Valley, up the valley road for 200 yards, theu turning to the right and up to the top of the cutting and down into Derweht street, along Derwent street, back-to Cliff House. Captain Campbell's team won, with Mr. Gordon's team second by 20 yards. Mr. Paris, club president, presented the baton to the winning team. Next week the run will be from Seatoun for the Byrne memorial, five miles: Training rooms are now available at Kelburn Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. SCOTTISH CLUB. The Scottish. Harriers held their threemile sealed : handicap on Saturday from Lyall Bay. There was an attendance of twelve runners and about thirty club supporters. The trail wae laid by G Zander and N.C. Dempsey. The runners, who were dispatched by Mrs. Baudinet started^ at a smart pace, with Silver leading and Woodcock, Payton, and Whitehouse close behind. At the golf house Silver and Woodcock were still to the fore, with the rest of the field slightly strung out. The race, which was very keenly, contested resulted in Silver breasting the. tape first with Woodcock"-second and Payton third! When the sealed handicap was worked out the race was awarded to E. M'Kenna (141 sec), 16min 39sec, 1; W. Higgins (160 sec), 16min 43sec, '2; H. Wood (107 sec), 16 mm 59sec, 3. Fastest times were established by F.i Silver, 17min 40sec; B. Woodcock, 18inin; W. Payton, 18min 25scc. The club was entertained to afternoon tea by the Misses Whitehonse. Next week the club holds a run from the Kelburn tram terminus. ..'• . i .
