. NELSON, 2nd June. During May 28 births, 14 deaths, and 7 marriages were registered in the Nelson district. The authorities intend taking drastic steps against cyclists neglecting to observe the bylaws in respect of lights There has been marked "neglect oh the part of cyclists. Dr. D. C. Low has been re-elected president of the Nelson Returned Soldiers' Association, and Mr. A. B. Kidson vicepresident. The Customs' duties at Port Nelson in May totalled £3017 15s 2d, compared with £4034 10s 6d last year. In connection with the Farmers' Union a Winter School will be in operation on the 9th and 10th August at Richmond and on the 11th an"d 12th August at Takaka. Stock demonstrations and lectures will be held as last year. The school will also travel right through the Nelson and Marlborough districts. Mr. J. Pagan has been elected president of the Farmers' Union for the coming year. ' The death is reported of Mr. John Power, of Teal Valley, in his ninety-second year.
