The Nelson Golf Club held a handicap competition for the Encounter Shield. H. Saunders, handicap 12, ■ was the winner with a net score of 69, H. Dodds runnerup, with nett 73 from the same handicap. . An attendance, of over 100 participated in the New Zealand Fruit Grower*' Conference on Saturday. A large quantity of business pertaining to tho activities of tho growers was attended to, and the meeting wns then adjourned. Mr. Hnining wag ro-electcd president for the enduing year. At tho Magistrate's Court on Saturday, Robert 'Johnson and- John Samuel Brake wero proceeded ngainst by the Inspector of Orchards for failing to take the necessary steps to eradicate red mite, apple scab, and powdery mildew. Both defendants were fined £2 and costs.
