NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN

Tho annual meeting of the/Wellington branch of the National Council of Women was presided- over by Mrs. Henry Smith (president). The Dominion President (Mr ß Fraeiv of Chriitehurch) paid the branch an official visit, and, after formal, Business had been ' transacted, delivered a short address, outlining the work that I had been done and that lay ahead of the organisation, ' , ( ," D Hring the past year," gays the report, +£ •x?£ 1&r oJv the Wellington Branch of •ti. W' has.been mainly concerned! with.matters connected with, the welfare ot the children and young people of the Dominion." ■ . _ .A resolution was forwarded to the Prime ■Minister urging the importance o£ special schools for mental defectives, in segregation on farm homes, and over-sexed people^ The N.B.W. has advocated the Bills passed which provide for the appointment or women justices to censoring, street trading, family Allowances, nationality of mar*ped women- A number of other imiP°rtant'matters were dealt with at the : U»nstch«rch Conference, Congratulations to members of the council were given to Mrs. Forde (Welfare Officer),' Mrs. M'Vicar (J.P.), Mrs. M'Gill (President of Wellington Branch of N.Z.1.E.), and Lady istout (on her golden wedding). Thanks were given by the president to those who had given lectures during the year, and to the members of council for loyal sup- | port. It was mentioned with pleasure that thera were two new affiliations, the Ked Cross and Taranaki street Mothers' Uub. The. resignations pfMrs. Boden and :Misb Aiken were'accepted with regret.
