BOY DROWNED

MISADVENTURE WITH BOAT

(By Tttttrapn.) (Spatial to "Tht Evanlna Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day. A fatality occurred on the Waikato River at. Bangiriri on Saturday, when Robert Norquay, aged 14, was drowned before the eyes of his younger brother. They went to the. river bank in the afternoon and the older boy jumped into a flat-bottom punt and unfastened the painter. The current swept the small craft clear of the bank, and the smaller boy could give no assistance. Fearing he would be carried into midstream, the boy in the boat jumped into about' 15 feet of water and made a fruitless attempt to reach the bank; He sank before help arrived. The body was recovered since by constables. The unfortunate feature of the accident was that if the boy had remained in the boat he would have been rescued by his father's launch. Mr. Norquay was returning up the river when he saw the empty punt adrift. He took it in tow and learned of the fatality on his arrival at Rangmri a few minutes later.
