AMERICA^ EXPERIMENTS

Great interest waa taken yesterday imong wireless enthusiasts in the announced broadcasts from the United States. There were two special attractions. One was a transmission from KOA, Denver, Colorado, of an Australian programme from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. (New Zealand time). This station operates with 5000.! watts on a wavelength of 332: metres, and many listeners attempted to ear it direct, but with little success. • A few,; howeveer.. were able to extract a suggestion of -music and speech: . ■„•,.'. >\-, :. .. ■,■"■'.' ■' The other was a special test carried out by the . shortrwaye stations of thfi General Electric Company, (2XAF and 2XAD) at Schenectady, New York, on various Vwayelengtha. with 'the object of comparing their suitability for worldWide .transmission.. The Sydney ' broadcasting station,, 2FC, promised to relay KOA if it was possible, /but gave it up as hopeless owing to the heavy atmospheric interference. It succeeded, however, in re-laying-puts of the Schenectady programmes. . The results were more interesting than, enjoyable, but considering the' great distance traversed and the bad conditions the performance; was a remarkable one.
