He congratulated the college upon its growth and the attainment of its majority.-. The_ Minister of Education (the Hon. R. A. Wright), having expressed nis pleasure at being present, said that the college was an institution which well merited the thanks of the community, and to it he extended the hearty good wishes of the Government. Having referred to the original staff and to the distinguished career of many connected with the college, he said that a progressive improvement, had beenshown in tlio training of teachers and in educational policy generally. The life of an institution was very similar to that of all individual, said Mr. W. H. Gould, the principal of the college, who was the next to address the gathering. The earliest years were the most important, and the college had been particularly fortunate iu its infancy. The aim of the college was primarily to build up personality in tho teachers; curricula and method took second place to that.
Amusing early reminiscences were indulged in by Mr. Robert Parker, who began work in connection with the first Training College, or Normal School as it was then, in- the early ’eighticsr He mentioned that they had a staff of six in thoso far-off days and: but 19 students. 1
The proceedings, which were attended by many closely connected with education and by a fair number of students, concluded with singing.
