BIRTHDAY COMMEMORATION

AUCKLAND, This Day,
In order to commemorate his eightieth birthday, Mr. Moss Davis, now of London and formerly a well-known Auckland business man, has given £1250 to be distributed among Auckland orphanages and various philanthropic socie: ties. Among institutions specifically mentioned by Mr. Davis were St. Mary's Homes for Girls, the Orphans' Home at Papatoetoe, and the Richmond Road Orphanage, and under the gift these institutions will benefit to the extent'of £100 each. The latest files of the "Daily Mail," London, contain an account of a party given to Mr. Davis on his birthday, which occurred on 3rd May. Hb health was proposed by Mr. T. P. O'Connor, "Father" of the. House of Commons.
