EMBANKMENT CRUMPLES
(United Press -Association.—Copyright.) NEW YOBK, 12th May. News from New Orleans states that while no definite break has yet. occurred in the Bayou-dcs Glaises levee, the water to-day began pouring over toe dyke levels, indicating that the levee can hold possibly only four hours. The first break in the levee system guarding central and southern Louisiana occurred when the embankment at Baton Rouge crampled near cotton, port, releasing part of tfca inland sea which had spread over North-east i-ouisiana. The effect of the bieaK upon New Orleans is problematical. Although the city Meteorological bureau renewed the warning that every precautionary measure should be taken, the city guards have been withdrawn from the levees in the neighbourhood of the' break, and the work of raising the tops of the; embankments halted.'
