GREETINGS EXCHANGED
Cabled messages have been sent by the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. J. G. Coates) as follows: — To the manager of the Now Zealand cricket team: "At the commencement of the tour of our first New Zealand cricket team in Britain, the best wishes of the people of New Zealand are extended to every member of the party. We are confident that the Dominion will be worthily represented. Kia Ora."
To the president of the Marylebone Cricket Club: "The people of New Zealand deeply appreciate tho hospitality extended to our representative cricketers by the historic Marylebono Club at the commencement of the tour. We are confident that the tour of our team in the Mother Country will serve to draw more closely together the peoples of our countries."
Beplies have been received by the Prime Minister as follows: —
From Mr. Hay: "Team honoured and pleased to receive your kind message. New Zealand can depend upon its representatives in cricket doing their best on and off the field. Had a warm reception off the field; expecting it on the field. Thanks and best wishes to yourself and people New Zealand." From the M.C.C: "Marylebone Club deeply appreciate message from people of New Zealand contained in your cablegram. We are glad of the opportunity of extending welcome and hospitality to the New Zealand team, and are confident that its visit ■will have effects reaching far beyond the cricket field." « . j i_^ "A WONDERFUL DAY." I The following telegram has been received by New Zealand Cricket, Ltd., I from Mr. D. Hay, manager of the New Zealand team: — "460. A wonderful day. Blunt, Mills, Page, Dempster went early in a bunch. Dacre followed, and opened with five consecutive fours. James made 33 with Dacre, a valuable score. The DacreLowry and Lqwry-M'Girr were great partnerships. A feature Of the day was the* forceful batting. The critics are very complimentary, and the crowd was obviously pleased. Hope to have Allcott in action in a month." ;
The president ■ of the Marylebone Cricket Club, Lord Leconfield, has sent the following cable to Mr. Dan Eeese, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council, in answer to the greetings of the New Zealand Council:— •
"The Marylebone Cricket Club heartily reciprocates your greeting. It is a real pleasure, to us to entertain your team, vand to help in every possible way. "We realise that you rejoice with us that cricket is doing so much to cement the comradeship of England and tho Dominions."
