A RACING SURPRISE
MR. HIGGIN^'S INTENTION
It in reported that Mr. J. Higgins is dehmte m his intention to resign as chairman ot A.J.O. stipendiary stewards Let "i-,°?, c. h<; u eh, i; 1'Ses his mind, writes .Pilot" in the Referee."
The newspaper announcement that Mr. J. Higgins, chairman of the A.J.C. stipendiary stewards, contemplated resigning was one of the recent sensations in Sydney.
Various reasons have been advanced as to why Mr. Higgins does not wish to continue in his present position, and some are very wide of the mark.
Early this year Mr. 'Higgins intimated hig intention of resigning, but in the hope he would change his mind members of the A.J.C. committee kept the matter quiet. However, Mr. Higgins has reiterated his
intention, and, though he has not sent in his resignation, it is now generally accepted as certain he will. .
For the good of racing in Sydnr•■ I hope -"*r- Higgins may be prevailed upon to change his mind. We have had no better stipendiary steward here since the system was adopted. Mr. Higgins, in addition to being a first-class judge of racing, does not permit himself to be influenced by public clamour, and has never been afraid to act when necessary. Mr. Higgins came back tfrom India in 1924 to become chairman of the A.J.C. stipendiary stewards. He will, at least, carry on until the end of the current year.
