won in succession a junior and a senior national scholarship and was awarded tho degree of M.Be. (Ne\r Zealand University) With first-clasH honours in physics iv 1904. He completed the honours course in mathematics and was awarded tho dogroe of D.Se. by the University of Now Zealnnd, for researches on meteorology. In 1905 he was appointed as Assistant-Magnetic Observer, Christchurch, under tho Department of Lands and Survey. In 1908 he joined the staff of tho Carnogio Ihstituto of Washington, and until 1914 worked on magnetic surveys in South America, Newfoundland, at sea, and in Australia. During his two years at sea on tho Carttogio he made the observations for tho navigation of the Vessel. From 1!>15 to 1919 ho wag on active sorvlcd with the motoorologlcal Section of tho Eoyal Engineers. Ho developed the forecasting service and application ot .meteorology to gunnery for the Salonika Forces, and for his successful work was mentioned in dispatches and awarded tho 0.8. E. In 1919 Dr. Kidson was appointod to the Wathoroo Observatory, Western Australia, and in ■10*1, as Supervising Meteorologist and Assistant-Director of the Commonwealth Motcoiologioal Service, which position ho at present holds. He was tho representative of tho Koyal Society of Victoria at tho mooting hold in Wellington in 1923 of tho Association of the Advancement of Science in Australasia.
