EMPIRE THEATRE, ISLAND BAY.
Lon Chaney's latest nntl possibly his biggest success, "Tho Rood to Mandaiay," which recently was screened at the Regent Theatre to capacity liotiacs, has been secured for the Empire Theatre for ihiH Friday and Saturday. The story is told in an Oriental environment made familiar by Rudyard Kipling's verses, and it gives Lon Chancy full opportunities to display his unique talents in the part of "Singapore Joe, a sinister ruler of underworld enterprises, who still retains a father's love for hiß daughter that in the end redeems him The Auckland "Star" refers to the picture us being "One of the best pictures screened for yenrs." Other subjects on a double star bill will be "The Unknown Cavalier, starring Ken Mnynard; also a?J ? ews and a very Sood comedy. Altogether it is an exceedingly good programme, .
