AT BERHAMPORE
ASSOCIATION AFFAIRS
The annual meeting of the Berhampore Progressive Association was held on Thursday evening, Mr. R. T. Bailey, president, being in the chair. There was a fair at- i tendance of members and residents. The report disclosed in detail various matters which had been taken up by the association, and placed before the local authorities for their consideration and the efforts made to effect the necessary improvements, principally applying to the better maintenance and repair of streets roads, and footpaths; adequate water supply if or the higlier levels; improvement of street lighting; regulation of traffic where congested at several street intersections; better facilities for, the removal of rubbish; important drainage, any sanitary defect likely to menace the health of the community; opening up of reserves, and providing additional playing areas for children; also the installation of more and convenient fire alarms throughout the district. The balance-sheet disclosed an increase of more than 100 per cent, in the number of members, and quite a satisfactory credit balance of £8 7s 3d on the year's working. ■ ... The following members were 1 elected as officers of the association for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. R. T. Bailey (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Mrs. M. Beale, Messrs. S. Duncan (re-elected), and H. Yates (re-elected); committee, Messrs. H. E. Brooker, J. Findlay, C. S. Rollett (reelected), and C. Wilson (re-elected); auditor, Mr. H. F. Maisey (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr. j. Georgeson (reelected). . The president and officers thanked the members present for their election, and the continued confidence in their ability to manage the affairs of the association. The president pointed out the excellent progress that:the association had made during the past year, and stated that the association, owing to the increased membership and better financial position, was now able to place the requirements of the district more effectually before the governing bodies for their consideration. A unanimous vote of thanks -was passed to the various public bodies and persons who had so ably assisted the association during the year. ' The following resolution was unanimously adopted: "That this association offers its congratulations to' Mr. G. A. Troup on his election as Mayor of Wellington, and trusts that the promise given at his recent Berhampore meeting regarding the inefficient water supply will be honoured in the near future."
