SERIES OF THEFTS ALLEGED

At the Magistrate's Court to-day, William John Sullivan (25) was remanded for a week and ordered to report daily to the police on charges of having committed theft from a shipping company. The charge was that on or about 30th June, 1924, and on divers dates between 30th June, 1924, and 19th March, 1927, the accused received sums of money totalling £950 on terms requiring him to account for or pay them to the Canadian Government Mercantile Marine Company, Ltd., and that he fraudulently failed to do so, thereby committing theft.
'Chief-Detective Lewis asked for a remand for a week in order that further inquiries could bo made. The accused had married recently, and no objection was offered to bail, ..s nothing was previously known against him.
Bail was allowed, of £250 and one surety of £250.
