ATHLETIC PARK

NEW STAND SCHEME

The efforts being made to financo the erection of a new stand at Athletic Park are referred to in the Wellington Rugby Union's annual report, and the hope is expressed that there will be sufficient money in hand to warrant a further active canvass, for debentures during the coming season, so that the work can be commenced this year.

Many schemes for financing the proposal were considered last season. Eventually a committee headed by Dr. M'Evedy was set up to canvass for donations, and as a result the sum of £400 was given. This amount is hold in trust for the stand fund. In addition efforts were made to secure a share in one of the art union permits in force. Arrangements were made with the Poverty Bay Eugby Union to share its permit, and the art union has just closed. The final result will not be known for some little time yet. An effort was also made to raise £15,000 by the issue of debentures. The sum of £1550 was taken up and is held in trust for the- purpose, and £2500 was definitely promised and will be available as soon as a start is made with the building. Tenders were called and the price was within the estimate of the architects.
