KING'S EVIDENCE
CLAIM FOR REWARD REFUSED*

The Chief Justice of Western Aus. tralia, in refusing Clarke'• claim for £1000 reward in connection with the Kalgooriie murder case, said Clarke had given information solely for his own protection and to clear himself of th« charge of murder.
Clarke, an hotelkeeper at South Boulder, turned King's evidence in the case against Treffene, his barman, and Coulter, a bookmaker, all engaged in gpld stealing, for the murder of Detectives Walsh and Pitman in April last. The two accused were convicted and hanged and Clarke claimed £1000 reward offered for. information leading to the discovery and conviction of the murderers.
