A curious incident occurred at a Wairarapa cheese factory the other day, reports an exchange. In the ventilated floor of the storage room is a trap door opening to the ground below. This door, very rarely used, was noticed to be rising a little from day to day, until it provoked considerable curiosity as to the cause. The trapdoor was accordingly lifted up, and there was discovered a hedgehog and a considerable accumulation of odds and ends with which it was making a nest. The hedgehog apparently considered the space under the door too circumscribed, and was gradually hoisting it as the- nest-build-ing proceeded. There are no earwigs in that basement.
