TOWN CLERK'S MISHAP
FALLS INTO SEA ' V
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
NELSON, 12th March.
The Town Clerk, Mr. G. A. Edmonds, who was accompanying the official party to the Renown, fell into the sea between the launch arid the Renown's gangway, and was pluckily rescued by Mr. Batterbee, political adviser to the Royal party: He was in imminent danger of being crushed to death between the launch and the gangway or washed away by a heavy sea. ■ Mr. Edmonds attributed his escape to the presence of mind of Mr. Batterbee, who, at great risk to himself, grabbed and pulled him to safety. The Duchess the. same evening sent a letter of sympathy to Mr. Edmonds. • ■
