THE CHILD'S MIND

SEDITIOUS TEACHING

PROLETARIAN SCHOOLS

HOUSE OF COMMONS DEBATE

(United Press Association.—CopyrifhtF; (Received 12th March, 11.20 a.m.) j LONDON, 11th March. ' Captain Halt (C.) moved the second reading of a private Bill aiming at the "prevention of the perversion of the minds of children under sixteen by seditious and blasphemous teaching and literature." He cited as an example of blasphemy taught 'in proletarian schools: "Christ on the Cross dying for sinners is so ridiculous that one despairs of the hold this superstition has cm the minds of the working' class." The latest manifestation of Communist propaganda, directed and financed from Moscow, was the formation of a Teachers' Labour League, which was distinctly Communistic.

Mr. Hudson (C.) moved the rejection ot the Bill, and pointed out that tho existing laws were capable of dealing with blasphemy and sedition. The Rev. J. Ban- said that he was as.repelled as anyone by the blasphemies quoted, but attempts to sup. press them by fines and imprisonment would only advertise them and create a sense of martyrdom. He protested against the attempts which were beinir made to associate the Labour Party with anti-religious teaching. * p,l t!'\ H nltOn Philipsoll (C-> complaineel that Communist Sunday schools, in addiUon to seeking to destroy religion* t , w!
