SALVATION ARMY

NEW TRAINEES.

That the internal vigour and enthusiasm of the Salvation Army movement does not appear to be in any way declining was shown on Thursday by the dedication of 43 new trainees to be officers in the ranks of the Army. Commissioner Hay, the head of the Army in New Zealand, who presided, made some striking comments on the fact that, while most religious movements in British Dominions appeared to constantly look to the Old Land for a large proportion of their new supplies the Army had for many years in New Zealand raised from its forces here the requisite supplies for maintenance of the service, as well as for expansion into new nelds of labour, as well as supplying workera for missionary lands. The Central Citadel was filled, and a most hearty welcome was accorded to the young men and women who had come from all parts of the Dominion for training in the college in Aro street Addresses were delivered by Sirs. Hay, Colonel luiott, and Brigadier Saunders the principal of the Training College In connection with the ten days' mission to be conducted' by Commissioner Hay in the Central Citadel, and which commenced yesterday, the cadets will be present. The services will be daily at 3 and 8 p.m., and promise to be a great success. The quartette party from headquarters, the new as well as old spiritual songs, the instrumental music, and the spiritual uplift, as well as Bible readings, all promise a unique ten days of spiritual strengthening. Commissioner Hay, who has had 4G years' experience of Array work, and is still vigorous and forceful as a public speaker, will be glad to welcome all classes to these meetings.
