There was quite an amount of high scoring, Midland piling up 477 runs for the loss of seven wickets hi their match with Institute, at Kelburn Park, Old Boys making 324 for nine wickets against University, Wellington putting on 300 against Hutt' and Petone compiling 343 against KUbirnie. In the other match, Thorndon v. V.M.C.A., the scores on both sides were very even, .Thorndon (with a man short) just failing to reach the V.M.C.A. score by six runs. Midland's big score was made in reply to Institute's great total of 523, so that the scoring for the matchwas easily a record. Only seventeen wickets fell, and the total runs scored was 10(Xr, averaging almost 60 runs per wicket. The match, of course, was drawn. Another feature of the games was the first defeat of Hutt for two seasons, Wellington succeeding in beating : the champions by 36 runs. Petone were faced with a big task in their match with Kilbirnie, but they gave a splendid performance, and it was only in the final few minutes of the game that Kilbirnie won. Old Boys scored decisively over University on the first innings. ' ■■ ' ' . Notable among the individual batting performances was that of W. A. Baker, who carried his bat throughout the afternoon for 226, being unbeaten Vhen stumps •tvero drawn. This is the highest score in senior cricket this.season, and by it Baker maintains his record as a great scoring batsman. W. R. Airey, a young batsman who is showing great promise, scored his first century in senior cricket, and W. S. Brice made his second three-figure score of the season. Other outstanding performances are indicated in the above list.
