The Grasfontein diamond rush was the biggest ever known, There were 2500 runners lined up for tho start, in the presence of a similar number of spectators. The first to roach the area was a. South African champion runner, Len Richardson, who was offered £1000 for his claim, but refused £20,----000. The licenses issued constitute a record.
