MOTOR FATALITIES
STEADILY INCREASING
"It is evident" (remarks the Government Statistician, 'in dealing -with causes of death for 1925) "that deaths from traumatism (injury) by motor-vehicles are steadily increasing, the toll in 1925 beins 108, as compared with 94 in 1924. The ever-increasing congestion of our public streets and the expanding employment of motor transportation generally have been great factors in producing ■ this increase." Hie rate per 1000 of population in 1925 of deaths by motor accidents was Sl2. It was 7.24 for 1924, and under 5 per 1000 in 1923 and 1922. In Australia the proportion of deaths from motor accidents is 8.72, in Canada 5.05; in England and Wales 7.1G, and in the United States 15.1 G. The rale per 1000 of deaths through motor accidents is higher than any other kind of accident—railways, tramways, drowning, falls, firearms, machinery, or mines and quarries.
