GORSE FIRES.

The recent spell of dry weather has lacihtal-ed flic burning of much of the gorse on the hills about Wellington lures have been burning almost continuously, but have not been of ■my size, and have generally been short lived. At about 11 o'clock this morning Petone was almost hidden by smoke, which poured down from the Koro Koro hills. Within about half an hour the fire had died down and, owiiii' to a fresh breeze, the smoke had disappeared.
