SWIMMING RECORD ATTACEKED.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, 3rd March. Miss K. Miller (Otago) to-night attempted to lower Miss G. Shand's record of 6min Bsec for tho 440 yards, but failed by 1 l-ssec. Miss Ena Stockley, Auckland, established tho time of 33 2-sscc for 50 metres, for which hitherto there has been no record in New Zealand.

A new record of 48 4-ssec for tho 75 yards intermediate championship was registered by Canavan at tho Auckland Grammar School swimming sports at the tepid baths yesterday. Canavan clipped.7-10sec off tho flve-year-old record of .4<Hsee, which stood to tho credit of the late C. A. H. Sparling, a former school chamiion and one of Auckland's most promising young sprint swimmers, whose death occurred a few weeks ago.
