LOCAL INDUSTRY
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —The expansion o£ local industry, is of such importance that it would be as well for your correspondent, Mr. W. Maddisoiij to say exactly what he means by' the sentence, "Looked at iioiu the purely economic point o£ view." Is there any contradiction between the economic point of view and a common-sense point o£ view? It would be also most interesting to have some definite information on the natural balance between nrimary and secondary industries and the proportion ofour population that can be employed iv them. Would the same proportion. apply to New Zealand and to England? If not, why not?—l am, etc., CHARLES J. WARD. 2Gth February.
