STATE OF FEDERAL?

NATURE OF DISPUTE

(Received 10th February, noon.)'

SYDNEY, This Day. ' In reply to Mr. Charlton's telegram, Mr. Bruce said that he was sending a Federal Government representative to Sydney to inquire into the dispute. It is believed that if Mr. Bruce will con* sider the appointment of local boards, the miners will return to work without holding aggregate meetings. In reply to a question in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. J. M. Baddeley, Minister of Mines, said that the dispute was not a matter for the State; it wai purely a Federal one.

It is understood that unless the strike becomes general, the railways have enough coal to maintain uncurtailed services for a considerable time. The City Council has also sufficient supplies to maintain electric services for three months.
