FIFTY YEARS' SERVICE
RETIRING MANAGER FAREWELLED.
The annual picnic of the Australian Mutual Provident Society was held to-day at the Trentham racecourse, with sports and games, the party being conveyed to Trentham by buses. Advautage was taken of the gathering of all branches of the staff to farewell the retiring manager, Mr. Arthur Amies, who has completed nearly fifty years of service, and to welcome his successor, Mr. F. F. M'Bride, whose length of service lacks only a year of that of Mr. Amies. An illuminated address, embodying allusions to the valuable services of the retiring officer, and a presentation from the staff, were handed to Mr. Amies by the sub-manager (Mr. W. J. Harland), and Messrs. G. P. Francis, on behalf of the district managers, and J. A. Stewart, on behalf of the industrial department, also made presentations and supplemented the remarks of the chief speaker. A presentation on behalf of the field staff was made by Mr. 0. Lashlie, president of the agents' association. . Mr. Amies suitably replied. The chairman (Mr. A. de B. Brandon) introduced and welcomed the new manager, recently in charge of the Queenslaud brand).
