CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) „ CHRISTCHURCH, 9th February. The.third wool sale of the Christchurch series was commenced this evening. Three of. the sis catalogues were disposed of comprising 9000" bales of a total of 20,000. The wool generally was in good condition, though not up to the order of the January catalogue, which, however, was a super catalogue. A good deal of the wpol was heavier and on an average it was not so bright as the preceding catalogue.' , ■ ■ • The particularly keen sale at Timaru prepared vendors for a brisk demand, and their anticipations were fully realised. All fine wools sold firmly, at Timaru rates, there being very little if any quotable change. However, three-quarter-bred and crossbred were in' particularly keen request, these classes being about a penny better than at last Christchurch "sale; and a shade in advance of Timaru. A" good deal of three-quarterbred made from 13% d to 14% d, and crossbred, which ranged about lid in January, exceeded the shilling mark. A heavy proportion of halfbred and Corriedale sold at 17% dto 18% d. A feature of the first catalogue was the spirited Continental competition, this element temporarily dominating the market. However, all buying parts appeared to be in want of wool, a fact which was fairly obvious when the big grouped lots were offered in the three catalogues. sold. The total passings were 354,. or a shade over i per cent. Oue halfbred lot was passed in at 20% d, a 4 bale lot of three-quarter-bred sold at 18% d, a 4 bale crossbred at 16% d." • - ■ • • A few of the leading prices were:— Buccleuch brand, 5 bales merino, 21% d; Connemara. 0 bales merino, 10% d; Mt. Vernon, 48 bales merino, 20? id.
