HUTT HIGH SCHOOL

ACCOMMODATION FULLY

OCCUPIED

The prediction, made at the opening, of the Hutt Valley High School last year, that within two years the growing needs of the district would demand increased accommodation, is likely to be fulfilled, indeed the new pupils enrolled at the opening of the school yesterday will tax to the utmost the capacity of tho school. The present building was designed to accommodate 250, and with the addition of over 100 new pupils this year the roll number is now upwards of 270.

Probably one of the first acts of the Board-of Governors at its next meeting will be a request for the completion of the building, for, though the school may. possibly carry on for this year, it is quite clear that very great increased accommodation will be needed by the beginning of 1928.

Owing to the increase in the roll numbers the appointment of two teachers in addition to Mr. Millard, 8.A., M.Sc, is now confirmed, and the board has approved the appointment of Mrs. M. C. Price, M.A., and Miss Mary Cooley, B.A. Mrs. Price belongs to an old Lower Hutt family, and her mother, Mrs. Boss,' still resides at Taita. She took her M.A. degree with honours in Latin and English. While a student at Victoria College Miss. Ross won the Sir George Grey Scholarship, and at Wellington College topped the list for the whole Dominion in the Senior Civil Service examination. In tennis she -represented University, and in hockey the province. Most of her teaching experience has been gained in Marlborough, under Dr. Innes.

Miss Mary Cooley, 8.A., is well known in 'dramatic and elocutionary circles, and many will recall tho fact that she was a member of the University team which met the English team of debaters.
