NELSON, Bth February.
The Minister of Education (the Hon. R. A. Wright), accompanied by Mrs. Wright, arrived in Nelson on Sunday morning. On Monday they visited the city Bchools. Messrs. Atmore, M.P., Mr. F. W. O. Smith, chairman of the Education Board, and Mr. William Maco'nchie, chairman of the Town Schools' Committee, accompanied the visitors.* The Minister gave a short address to the scholars at the Central, Brook street, Taamau. street, and Hampden street schools. At noon a civic reception, was accorded the Minister at the Municipal Chambers, when speeches of welcome were made by the Mayor, Mr. W. Lock, Councillor Watson, Mr. H. Atmore, M.P., the Hon. W. W. Snodgrass, and Mr. T. A. H. Field, an exM.P. In the course of his reply, the Minister congratulated Nelson on its record in educational matters, particularly in regard to the colleges, and concluded with some complimentary remarks on. the appearance of the city. In the afternoon the Tahunanui school was visited, and. the Auckland Point school was officially opened. The Minister left this morning for Coll'mgwood, via Waimeas and Motueka Valley, and will return to Nelson on Wednesday. During the country tour several schools will be visited.
