APPEAL FOR PEACE
BRIAND'S TRIBUTE TO
FORMER FOE

PARIS, 6th February. M. Briand, speaking at a luncheon in honour of the Poilus, again appealed for peaco between France and Germany. "The Germans are a great people," he said. "They are a formidable nation with, both good and bad. qualities. I say to her, France and Germany have fought throughout the centuries. Must we continue fighting every ten years?"
