RAIN DEFERRED
WARM AND HTJMID.
3 Apparently it is unable to rain properly in Wellington at present. Several times lately indications have been such th^t rain could be confidently expected, but the vagaries of things meteorological have at the last moment upset all calculations. A small depression which passed southward of New Zealand yesterday would normally have brought rain in its track, but beyond a few drops this morning,"Wellington escaped, although the West Coast and the extreme south of the Soutii Island had measurable* quantities. This disturbance made its presence felt by increased winds, but its effect was to a large extent modified by the development of another depression of similar character. "Warm and humid weather conditions are likely to continue for the present, with skies at times cloudy to overcast.
