THORNDON AND MIDLAND.

There was a good deal of incident in the Thorndon-Midland match on No. 2 wicket at the Basin Reserve, some of it provided by appeals and decisions. In one case a player who had been dismissed Ibw, was recalled only to fall to another appeal for Ibw. Thorndon. had first use of the wicket, but were not favoured with good fortune, and except for a splendid innings by Kortlang they did not do much scoring. Kortlang gave a very sound display, and looked w;ell set for a century when he miss-hit a ball from Judd and was caught by Patrick. Kortlang's score of 78 included twelve 4's. Carruthers shaped well in the concluding stages of the innings, and carried his bat for 38. Gibson; Caulton, and Roberts were the only other players to reach double figures. During the innings,, which realised 199 runs, there were four Ibw decisions against the batsmen, including one which resulted in a player being recalled after the umpire had conferred with the Midland captain. The successful Midland bowlers were Judd and J. Hutchings. Midland started well in reply with the bat, Dind and Baker, opening and putting on 51 runs before stumps were drawn shortly after 6 o'clock.
