THE MOTHES SHIELD

RETAINED BY PETONE

The Mothes Shield for rowing was retained by the Petone Rowing Club at a regatta held at Petone on Saturday. The shield has now been competed for seven times, and has been won by Petone four times, and by the Wellington Rowing Club three times. Star have not yet been able to win it, but on Saturday put up a, creditable performance and secured second place. After the third race, Star had 14 points to their credit as against Petone's 5 and Wellington's 2, but the Star crews could not maintain their advantage. The Petone Club put up an excellent performance, and secured 7 firsts out of eleven races.' Wellington were not as prominent as usual, and were placed m only three races..
