A THRILLING RESCUE

CHEISTCHUECH, This Day. A thrilling rescue from the surf took place at Sumner this morning." Mrs. Nicholson, wife of the Mayor, while bathing was washed out by the undertow. Several attempts at rescue failed until John. Brown, a storekeeper, dashed in full}' clothed, even to the extent of his apron, and carried a life line to the woman, who was later brought ashore with the aid of. a dinghy, exhausted. She had been in the water for half an hour.
