TRAFFIC CONTROL
DIFFICULTIES IN AUCKLAND
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post")
AUCKLAND, This Day. Since the Auckland City Council has taken over the control of traffic in the city area the Police Department has intimated that it will not undertake any further inquiries in respect of applicants for licenses to drive horsedrawn vehicles for hire, but will continue to report upon applicants for licenses to drive motor vehicles, as the issue of these is subject to control by statute law. '
t-h V-S f 6!^ o£ the City Council the chief traffic inspector reported that the Department's decision to discontinue the investigation work would make it impossible to ascertain the character of an applicant unless the council had access to the police records. He recommended that representations should be made to the Minister of Justice.
_ The Knance ana Legal Committee in recommending the adoption of the inspector's report, suggested that the council should convene a meeting of the Auckland members of Parliament before next session of Parliament with the object of bringing to their notice the whole question of traffic control. The committee's recommendations were adopted.
