MISS PHYLLIS LETT

To-night in the Town Hall, at 8 o'clock, Miss Phyllis Lett, the English contralto, will make her first appearance in New Zealand, under the direction of Mr. E. J. Gravestock. Miss Lett's name is a household word throughout Great Britain. It is only exceptional circumstances that allow of Dominion audiences hearing great artists at the zenith of their powers, and New Zealand is most fortunate that it has been found possible for Mis 3 Lett to make this visit now when her voice is at its richest. At the first concert to-night Miss Lett will sing "Creation's Hymn" and "In Questa Tomba" (Beethoven); "Alleluia" (O'Connor-Morris); "Die Mainacht" (Brahms); "L'Heureux Vagabond" (Bruneau); "The Song of the Palanquin Bearers" (Martin Shaw); "I Love the Jocund Dance" (Walford Davies); "At a Bierside" (Armstrong Gibbs); "The Bird" (Dwight Fiske); "The Second Minuet" (Maurice Besly); "Love Me If I Live (Cowen); and the Bach-Gounod "Aye Maria," with- violin, piano, and organ accompaniment. Miss Margot Mac Gibbon, a most talented young violinist, will play "Sonata in E Major" (Handel), with Mr. Maurice Besly at the piano; "Chorale Prelude, "O Sacred Head Surrounded" (Bach), "Lullaby" (Cyril Scott), "Minuet" (Porpora). Mr. Norman Bennett, tenor, from the principal concerts of Australia, will sing "O Loss of Sight" and "Total Eclipse" (Handel), "The Island" (Rachmaninoff), and "Adrift" (Bantock). Mr. Maurice Besly, the well-known English pianist and composer, will be heard in "Recit dv Pecheur" (de Falla), and his own "Nocturn in Form of a Waltz." Other concerts will be given on Tuesday and Thursday next. Plans for all concerts at The Bristol, and day sale tickets may be obtained at the Opera House Confectionery. Concessions are granted to all students and members of musical societies through teachers or secretaries.
