SAVINGS BANKS.
While the amount at credit of depositors in .savings banks has increased, there has been a steady advance since 1923-35 in the excess of withdrawals over deposits. The figures shown for the Post Office and private savings banks accounts since 1923-24 are as follow:— Cr. Deposits W'drawals. Depostrs. In 1923-24 the deposits' exceeded withdrawals by £88,051; but the excess of withdrawals for succeeding years was in the following order:—£B3o,7l3. £768.884, £648,950. The amount standing to. credit of depositors in private savings, banks at the end of the financial year, 1926, was £6,----364,383. In their case the deposits exceed the withdrawals by £351,413 for the nine months, 1926-27, depositors in 1925-26 in the Post Office Savings Banks numberled 758,155; in private savings banks 135,074. ..
