SHANGHAI, 3rd February. Severe earthquake shocks were felt here this morning. Buildings rocked for half a minute, but no damage was reported.

Another shook of 70 seconds' duration was felt at 1 p.m. The local observatory states that the earthquakes were centred 150 or 200 mile 3to the west or north-west of Shanghai. They are not considered ■ serious.
