ELECTRIC LIGHT SPORTS

WELLINGTON CENTRE MEETS

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Centre of ' the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last .evening, Mr. A. C. Kitto presiding.

The secretary of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association wrote stating that the Wellington Centre's invitation to members of the Otago team to.compete at a meeting in Wellington on 14th February, on their return, from Auckland, had been considered. His centre had decided to leave the matter in the hands of the selection committee. The Otago team would not be selected finally until sth February. As. soon as the Selection Committee got in touch with those likely to make the trip to Auckland he would aclviso the local centre of the result. It was practically certain that R. W. Lander would be in Wellington at the time, as he intended spending a-week hereafter the New Zealand championships. ' A letter was also received from the Canterbury Centre stating that it would arrange for those of the Canterbury competitors who could to stay for the meeting in Wellington on their return from the New Zealand championships. The Selwyn Club advised that it proposed sending P. S. Harrison to. compete in cycle events Nos. 20, 21, and 22 at tho New Zealand championship meeting at Auckland, at the expense of the club.

The Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was given permission to hold a sports meeting on the Lower Hutt Kecreation Ground on 18th April, in conjunction with the Lower Hutt Gala Committee. ,■

ELECTRIC LIGHT MEETINGS.

On the motion of Mr. J. O'Sullivan, it was decided to apply for the use of the' Basin Reserve, to hold electric light meetings, on 26th February, 2nd March, 12th March, 26th March, and 9th April. It was agreed that the Port Nicholson Cycling Club be granted the meeting on .2nd March; that the proceeds from the meeting on 12th March be 'devoted to such clubs as 'the centre thinks fit, and that tho proceeds'from the meeting on 26th March bo devoted to charity.

It was also resolved that all club secretaries be asked .to submit balancesheets as at tho end of April, and that the proceeds from the meeting on 12th March be devoted as the centre considers desirable. ; ■ •

Permission was granted the Wellington Primary Schools' A.A.A. to hole! its annual combined sports gathering for this season on tho Basin Reserve on Bth April. Mr. M. H. Robinson waited on the centre with a view to the centre arranging a sports meeting to assist the candidature of Miss Doreen M' Cubbin, the Red Cross representative, in the queen carnival competition being held in connection with the Grand Military Tournament and Searchlight Tattoo, and for the purpose of Taising money generally in aid of the society's funds. Through Mr. Gill, a request was also made for assistance in connection with the raising of £400 to £.500 necessary to complete the amount required for the installation of radio receiving plant for the use of patients at the Wellington Hospital. The centre is to give consideration to the requests.

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The question of having two days for New • Zealand championships was brought up by Mr. H. M'Cormick. Mr. Kitto moved, and it was seconded, that it be a recommendation to the conference of centres that the New Zealand championships be held on two successive days, and that the dates must be approved by the council. The chairman announced that Miss M. Collins had been selected as the other member of the ladies' team for the New Zealand championships. Owing to Miss S. Swinburne's inability to secure tho necessary leave, the ladies' team to compete at Gisborne on the way back from Auckland to Wellington, will be as follows: —Misses Porter, Mantan, Stevenson, and Collins. The 'Varsity athlete, G. J. Seeats, was also added to the Wellington team for Auckland, on the motion of Mr. H. M' Cormick. CYCLISTS' COLOURS. Mr. H. W. Thompson referred to the number of competitors in tho cycle events last Saturday advertising various makes of cycles on their singlets. "I do not know who the local officer is," said Mr. Thompson, "but ho is lacking in his duty in not compelling these men to ride in their club colours. There were at least half a dozen competitors at the Wellington championship meeting advertising different makes of cycles." '
