OBITUARY
MR. ISAAC CLABK
Deep regret will be felt at the death of Mr. Isaac Clark, one of Wellington's best known and most highly respected' citizens. Mr. Clark was in his usual health, yesterday; indeed, he took part in a game of bowls* on the Thorndon Club's green in the afternoon, and the activity and cheerfulness which were such marked characteristics of his nature were as manifest as ever. In the evening, however, he had a heart attack which quickly proved fatal. The late Mr. Clark, who was the head of the firm of Isaac Clark and Son, builders and contractors, was a native of England, and was in his 78th year. He came to Wellington as a boy with his parents in the ship Oliver Lang in 1857; was apprenticed to Messrs. Gascoyne and Parsons, builders, and in later years became a member of the firm of Clark and Thompson, builders. During the past 27 years the business has been conducted in partnership with his son, Mr. W. I. Clark. Ho took an active part in many local movements, and probably there was no one wHp had a better knowledge of early Wellington history and especially, of those who were at all prominent in its civic life. Mr. Clark had a wonderfully retentive memory, and was a much-consulted authority on events of former days. The late Mr. Clark was connected for many years with the Order of Oddfellows Manchester Unity, of which he was Past District Grand Master and senior trustee of the Wellington district. He was also a trustee of the Antipodean Lodge and of the Widows' and Orphans' Society. . He was a member of the Early Settlers' Association; was one of the oldest members of the Thorndon Bowling Club, and was in the team which won the veterans' competition last year, an event of which he was proud as a bowler. The late Mr. Clark was a, prominent Methodist and was a trustee of the Methodist Church, Northland.
The late Mr. Clark is survived by a widow, three sons and two daughters— 7. L Clark > and Mr B P. D. 1. S\^ c Tngton; S> M- Clark > Au<*O rL^^n"B6' Caml>riage; and Miss tafcßl ' S ni, ngton- Tha f^eral will take place oft Sunday.
