The Stock Exchange as a whole has now recovered from, the holidays, and during the past week business, on the whole, has been fairly active. As compared with the close of 1926 Government loans are holding their own, sales of. 4% per cent. (1930) being recorded at £97 10s, and (1938) at £96 12s 6d. The 5% per cent. (1933) are valued at £101. Bank shares are firm with a disposition to improve. New Zealands sold at 59s sellers' price at the end of December last: Nationals command £7 Is to £7 2s. New South Wales have changed,hands at £47 2s 6d, showing an improvement on the offer at the end of December of 22s 6d. Union Bank cum. dividende are wanted at £15 8s 6d. Commercial, ordinary, have buyers at 335; Australasia sold at £14 3s 6d. Insurance shares are attracting attention, New Zealands selling at 37s 6d cum. dividend;. Nationals, at 745; South British, at 56s Sd and 56s 6d; and Standards are well held. Brewery shares are attracting buyers. The big company's shares stand at 52s buyers; Staples sold at 395.. Wilson's Cement sold at 355, an appreciation of Is on December closing prices. With the passing of the dividend this year New Zealand Refrigerating shares have been sold at 6s for contributing, as compared with 7s 3d to 7s 6d sales last week. Gear Meat have sellers at 365. Electrolytic Zinc have been sold at 37s 6d. British Tobacco have been transferred at 51s to 525. Burns, Philps, command £2, and Colonial Sugarß £55. Coal mines have sold at 22s for Taupiris, and Westports are held for 36s 6d. Goldsborough Morts have reported sales at 49s 6d and 49s 9d. New-Zealand Guarantee Corporation, which has just reduced i its rate of interest to borrowers by 1 per cent., has had sales at 10s for the 8s ordinaries. Buyers are offering ,9s 9d for Kaiapoi, Woollen contributing.
