The Government insists that Francisco Jiminez, the Catholic Archbishop of Guadalajara, is in the field personally leading a revolutionary army of five hundred riflemen in the State of Jalisco. On the other hand, the churchman's friends declare that he is in no way responsible for the. uprising, having fled from Guadalajara a fortnight ago, fearing arrest.

"Whichever report is correct the Government is extremely concerned with the seriousness of the situation, fearing %lxs.t the flame of rebellion will spread throughout the entire district. The War Department has ordered reinforcements to be entrained with orders to ruthlessly crush the rebels.
