NOTES AND COMMENTS

Nominations for the Taranaki Jockey Club's Meeting are due on Monday.

Acceptances. for the first day at Takapuna close on Friday night. Useful acceptances • have been received for the Pahiatua Meeting, which opens, next Wednesday and concludes on Thursday. Practically all the horses engaged will have raced either at FoxtQn, or Trenthem, so that there will be plenty of recent form as a guide. Statuette, a really great sprinter in her day, and winner of an Auckland Railway ;Handicap; is advertised for sale, together ■with her yearling filly and colt foal, both by Leighton. If there is anything in breeding, speed is decidedly suggested by the above, and all three should be worth consideration. In addition, a two-year-old gelding by Leighton from the imported Sundust by Sunstar is offered for sale. Full particulars of these horses can be obtained 'from Mr. T. S. Koulston, at the Hotel "Cecil. Recent sales through Mr. Eoulston's agency are those of Cosmetic, Chelpne, and Royal Lineage. Baby Bun, who is engaged in a five-fur-long hack handicap on the concluding day at Trentham, is a great beginner, and goes -very fast over a short course. She was noticed scampering down the straight this morning in good style. Lack of size is the only thing against her. The Licensing Committee of the Racing Conference will meet this week, and it is possible that there will be aa addition or two to the ranks of licensees.

It is said that Ruffles contracted a cold at Ellerslie, but his nomination for the Takapuria Meeting suggests that all is well Tvith him again. '
